Funding opportunities

The School of Chemistry has a number of PhD funding pportunities available, through research council grants, charities, industry and the University.

Some of these funding options are linked to specific projects, whilst others can be applied more flexibly, allowing applicants to choose their research areas and supervisors.

The School of Chemistry has a selection of research project opportunities available each year for PhD students, across a range of research areas.

Leeds Doctoral Scholarships

The School is please to offer a number of scholarships for 2017 entry, as part of the University's Doctoral Scholarships scheme, which is open to all applicants. The scheme covers academic fees for up to three years, along with a maintenance grant matching the Research Council UK rate (£14,296 for 2016/17).

These scholarships can be used in conjunction with any of the project opportunities within the School's research groups.

Eligibility

To be eligible you must:

›  have achieved at least a First Class (1) Honours degree or equivalent at
   undergraduate level

›  meet the English language requirements of your programme of study if English is
   not your first language

›  not have already been awarded or currently be studying for a doctoral degree

›  not already be in receipt of a doctoral scholarship

›  have submitted a research degree application form and be in receipt of a student
   ID number

University wide scholarships 
The University of Leeds offers a range of scholarships for both UK/EU and International students wishing to study at postgraduate level. Full details on all scholarships can be found on the Postgraduate Scholarships web page.

Doctoral Training Programmes
In addition you may apply to a number of prestigious Doctoral training programmes, which offer fully-funded PhD scholarships within defined subject areas, focusing on multi-disciplinary challenges in modern science. The funding is generally available for UK/EU students only but there are exceptions with some partial funding available for International students.

Alumni Bursary
If you are a former student of the University of Leeds you may be eligible for a 10% Alumni Tuition Fee Bursary.
