In the latest Research Excellence Framework, we were ranked 4th in the UK for research impact, with 95% of our work being rated as ‘internationally leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’.

We have all the facilities that you’ll need to support your doctoral research.

Our School of Chemistry building has undergone a £13m refurbishment, providing some of the best facilities for synthetic, physical and analytical chemistry in the country.  

Exceptional support for doctoral students

We’ll support you during your PhD in many ways. 

You’ll meet with your academic supervisor several times a week in the lab or at a group meeting.

You’ll also benefit from formal review meetings with your supervisor regularly.

Our friendly and supportive approach is designed to help you develop your research skills and other generic skills such as planning and organisation.

This will help you to become an independent researcher producing outstanding research by the end of your doctoral studies.

Development opportunities

Our Faculty Graduate School gives you lots of opportunities to develop your skills.

Each academic year ends with the postgraduate conference, where you’ll have the chance to celebrate the excellent work of you and your colleagues.

As a member of the conference, you’ll also develop your presentation skills through poster and verbal presentations with prizes awarded for the best contributions.

You might also travel and present at major national and international conferences.
