Adam Nelson Programme Manager MSc Chemical Biology and Drug Design

Professor Adam Nelson
Programme Manager
MSc Chemical Biology and Drug Design

I am the programme manager of the MSc Chemical Biology and Drug Design at the University of Leeds.  I am also Director of the Astbury Centre for Structural Molecular Biology, an interdisciplinary centre that brings together over 250 researchers at Leeds.  My research team exploits synthetic chemistry as a tool to understand biological problems, largely in collaboration with other members of the Astbury Centre at the University of Leeds.

Professor Chris Rayner
Programme Manager
MSc Chemical Process Research and Development

I am a great believer in interdisciplinary research. This can take many guises, but for many years I have been interested in research at the Chemistry-Engineering interface. With the recent establishment of our unique Institute of Process Research and Development (iPRD) and the fantastic opportunities and facilities this offers, I am proud to be leading the iPRD teaching initiatives, which I believe provide a unique training in this vital area.

I am also very active in research, with sustainability of chemical processes being the core theme, and special interests in the chemistry of carbon dioxide and utilisation of natural and renewable materials.

I am Head of Organic Chemistry, and Director of two University spin out companies; DyeCat Ltd., which specialises in environmentally and consumer friendly coloration processes, and C-Capture Ltd., which is developing new materials for capturing carbon dioxide, thus avoiding its release into the atmosphere and helping to slow global warming. All these activities rely on close collaboration with colleagues from a range of different disciplines, something for which Leeds is particularly well suited.

Peter Rhodes Postgraduate Colour Science Admissions Tutor

Dr Peter Rhodes
Postgraduate Admissions Tutor
MSc Colour and Imaging Science
MSc Polymers and Surface Coatings Science and Technology

I am responsible for reviewing applications and for making offers to suitable candidates. This can be particularly challenging because our two programmes attract international interest from people of quite diverse academic backgrounds. I also manage both programmes and contribute towards undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

I am actively engaged in research in the area of colour and imaging science.  This is a very dynamic and exciting field due to rapid changes in technology and its application to novel problems. The efforts of our research team have led not only to numerous journal and conference papers but also to global standards for the appearance, tolerance and communication of colour. We are also actively engaged with industry and have an established track record of developing successful commercial products.
