Research interests

We have diverse interests spanning organic chemistry and biochemistry. Current projects include the development of new methodology for post-translational modification of proteins, the chemical biology of protein phosphorylation and the enzymology of biosynthetic pathways. Recent highlights include the characterisation of a fifth protein essential for pantothenate biosynthesis in bacteria and the synthesis of stable analogues of phosphorylated histidine. We use a wide range of complementary biophysical approaches including calorimetry, macromolecular crystallography and organic synthesis.
